Victoria BC

Our first event this morning was the Pickle Boat Ballet which is a ballet performed in the Inner Harbor by the H2O Taxis.  So cute!!  They do this every Sunday morning over the summer and today was the first performance as this Victoria Day weekend marks the start of the summer season just as Memorial Day weekend marks our start to summer.

Starting the ballet just as the Coho was pulling out to go to Port Angeles

A short video of part of the ballet can be found at:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mlcal06jv1Y

Then we were off to the Victoria Highland Games. We saw some field hockey, the Pipe Band Competition, and Throwing the Hammer. The Hammer involves a weighted head attached to a pvc handle measuring no more than 50” long.  The Hammer is spun overhead multiple times and released so that the Hammer flies behind the athlete.  There are two events, the Light Hammer (16 lbs for Men and 12 lbs for Women) and the Heavy Hammer (22 lbs for Men and 16 lbs for Women).

Men's Heavy Hammer

Women's Heavy Hammer

Fun to see all the kilts.  There were many things going on from sack races to henna tattoos, to highland dancing . . . It was very well attended and the weather could not have been better.  What a hoot!!  I should have attended the Whisky School, now that would definitely have been a hoot.

Got a real kick out of this company:
