Another good day for walking and this time we went the half
block to the end of Rob’s street and turned left. We walked through a large part of Beacon Hill
Park with its marvelous gardens, ponds, peacocks, petting zoo . . .
We found a small shopping/eating/groceries area on Cook
Street which was delightful and we stopped and had a slice of pizza from Hot
House Pizza. What a treat! Interesting ingredients for this unique flavored pizza:
Perogie Pizza
Alfredo Sauce, baked potatoes, chopped green onions covered with cheese & topped with aged cheddar & real bacon

We saw other noteworthy spots. The Mile 0 marker is the start of the over
8,000 km Trans-Canada Highway that spans the entire length of Canada.
Mile 0 is also home to a statue of Terry Fox. Fox lost his
right leg to cancer when he was 18 years old. After 18 months and running over 5,000 kilometers (3,107 miles) to prepare, he started a cross-country run to
raise money for cancer research, beginning in Newfoundland on the East coast of
Canada, and was to end at the Mile 0 marker in Victoria. Unfortunately, Fox's
journey ended tragically near the halfway mark in Thunder Bay, Ontario when he fell ill and passed away
from cancer in 1981. We went to a monument to Fox in Thunder Bay when we went through a couple of years ago.
.
We passed a lawn bowling club and a game of cricket.
Then it was time to wander home for Norm's nap before settling in for the night with some British TV.
We've done quite well with our miles walked the last couple of days - hope it continues. It seems a little strange today to know that we're here for a month and we've been looking through Rob's list and brochures on different things to see and do on Vancouver Island. One thing we DO NOT want to do is rush around trying to see and do everything. We want to just enjoy this experience.
This was Rob last night preparing our dinner - what an incredible chef!!!

Well what a terrific day. Too much fun is correct. Now about to board the flight to Paris. Have fun!
