Gilroy, CA

Great start to the day with our harbor (harbour, for those Canadians reading this) walk with Craig, Art and Linda.  When we got back to the parking lot we were pleasantly surprised to get donut holes from Art which, of course, we ate in the RV.

We took the obligatory exit off the 101 at Santa Margarita, then followed El Camino Real into Atascadero so we could go past the house Norm’s parents built and lived in for many years.  Looks pretty much the same as the last time we went by in 2009.

A short walk to explore the Carlton Hotel in Atascadero (very disappointing as it looks like it’s failing) but a lovely lobby...built in 1929 it was restored in 2005. The website says "The Historic Carlton is a hotel worthy of the guests who once graced the rooms of Hearst Castle."  Lovely place, though.

and then a walk through the neighborhood, showed us two interesting places.

"Get pampered by the vine while drinking local wines” at Vino+Therapy.

Anyone for a cream tea?

A pretty good travel day, even though we ran into some strong winds off and on all day. Our original plan was to stop in King City but we got there too early so we’ve ended up in Gilroy at the Gilroy Garlic USA RV Park.  

Not terribly picturesque but across the street from a huge shopping center and it has full service – electric, water, sewer, cable, WiFi.  Interestingly, we’ve noticed over the past 2-3 years that campgrounds are losing the cable service and most now have WiFi.

Today we’ve traveled a whopping 272.1 miles in 7 hours!
